    Abstract

    The digitization of healthcare has significantly enhanced diagnostic accuracy and patient data management; however, it has also introduced substantial vulnerabilities regarding the privacy and integrity of sensitive medical records. This project focuses on the Design and Implementation of a Cryptosystem for Securing Medical Images, addressing the critical need for robust protection of diagnostic data, such as X-rays, MRIs, and CT scans, during storage and transmission.

    The proposed system implements a hybrid cryptographic framework that combines the efficiency of symmetric encryption for bulk data processing with the secure key management of asymmetric algorithms. To maintain the clinical utility of the images, the system utilizes advanced encryption standards—specifically Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) or Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC)—to ensure high-level security without compromising image resolution or introducing significant latency. Furthermore, digital watermarking and hashing techniques are integrated to provide integrity verification, ensuring that any unauthorized alteration of medical data is immediately detectable.

    The implementation was evaluated based on encryption/decryption speed, peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), and resistance to common cryptographic attacks (e.g., differential and statistical analysis). Results demonstrate that the cryptosystem effectively secures medical imagery against unauthorized access and cyber threats while adhering to international healthcare privacy regulations such as HIPAA and GDPR. This research contributes to the development of secure telemedicine frameworks, ensuring patient confidentiality and data authenticity in an increasingly interconnected medical landscape.
