Design and implementation of crime reporting system – Complete Project Material
Abstract
In an ideal society, laws govern behavior, and individuals who break these laws face measurable consequences. Traditionally, citizens are expected to report any breach of law and order to the appropriate law enforcement authorities. In the past, reporting crimes in Nigeria typically involved visiting a law enforcement office, such as the police or neighborhood corps, making anonymity almost impossible. However, advancements in technology have expanded the avenues for reporting crimes, from telegraphs and specialized radio communication to dedicated phone lines, and now, more responsive and accessible web and mobile software applications.
This project design and implementation of crime reporting system was developed using the agile methodology, which facilitates rapid prototyping and development while allowing for easy future expansion. PHP was employed as the programming language, with Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) used to create an engaging and user-friendly interface. MySQL served as the database for information storage. This system was designed following a comprehensive study of the current manual processes in the Nigerian Police system. Once fully implemented, it aims to eliminate the flaws and inefficiencies of the existing manual system, streamline information sharing, and significantly enhance the country's security infrastructure.
